In the eight century, the Moors occupied parts of what would become France. They reached as far as Burgundy or Poitiers where they were defeated by Charles Martel who carried on chasing them till they retreated south of the Pyrénées. They left behind them a wealth of knowledge in goat cheese making and they even left the goats, which they called « chebli ».
The French adopted that craft and perfected it, creating along the following centuries a vast array of goat cheese. We hold many of those now classic goat cheese as well as more recent pieces made by a range of small artisan that we support.
